October 26, 2015 – West Palm Beach, FL – On October 21, Palm Healthcare Foundation hosted nearly one hundred guests for its annual Community Update event. The foundation announced the next two of six local communities to receive $1 million each as part of the foundation’s Healthier Together initiative. Boynton Beach and West Palm Beach/Riviera Beach were selected to receive $200,000 a year for the next five years in an effort to improve the health and well-being of local residents.
Healthier Together is a place-based grantmaking strategy implemented by Palm Healthcare Foundation to solve Palm Beach County’s most complex healthcare issues neighborhood by neighborhood. The initiative is a collaborative process that puts the decision-making, and responsibility for one’s own health, back into the hands of the community.
“Healthier Together is all about bringing people together from diverse segments of our community to work on improving important health issues in neighborhoods with an overall goal to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in Palm Beach County,” said Andrea Bradley, J.D., President and CEO of Palm Healthcare Foundation.
Last October, Palm Healthcare Foundation launched Healthier Together with the announcement of the first two neighborhoods to receive the multi-year funding: Jupiter and Delray Beach. Healthier Jupiter targeted diabetes prevention and management as its focus area and Healthier Delray Beach chose behavioral health as its key health issue.
Palm Healthcare Foundation has been working with more than sixty local organizations in Boynton Beach and West Palm Beach/Riviera Beach in preparation for the launch of Healthier Together. Local leaders and residents in each community will identify critical health issues in their area and then collaborate with the foundation, utilizing the committed funds, to create lasting, impactful change.
