Healthier Jupiter, in partnership with the Town of Jupiter’s Recreation Department and Jupiter Medical Center’s Cary Grossman Health & Wellness Center, is offering a free nine-week Couch to 5K training program to help participants gradually increase their physical activity to walk/run a 5K (3.1 miles).
Training is now underway with over 150 community members committed to the program and will continue through Saturday, April 28, concluding with our Couch to 5K group participating in the Town of Jupiter Turtle Trot 5K on Saturday, May 5. The Couch to 5K program was developed as a way for community members to get active and seek fitness in an inclusive and encouraging environment. Over 75 participants joined Couch to 5K for the first meet up on March 3rd. It is great to see this program has attracted such a diverse group. We have participants just getting started with exercise, some getting back in shape, and families looking for an opportunity to bond with physical activity.
The support of each other in this Couch to 5K group is key and we look forward to a tight bonds created by working together for one common goal – Getting Active. Bianca Blakesee shared she is participating “To build new memories and make new friends, all while getting healthy”. We have heard this same sentiment by so many and know there will be many memories and friendships developed that will last beyond this 9-week program.
