In January, HDB met with Senior Pastor Evans and Youth Ministry Leader, Freslaine St. Louis (also an HDB Ambassador!) to solidify plans to bring Mental Health First Aid training to employees and leaders at Bethel Evangelical Church.
Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is an international training designed to teach anybody and everybody how to react when they see signs and symptoms of a behavioral health concern or crisis. The training breaks down what to do with the acronym ALGEE and provides trainees with tools for each step in the process.
Bethel Evangelical Church
Bethel Evangelical Church is one of the largest Haitian churches in Delray Beach, serving over 600 families every week. And the church reaches much farther than weekly services. They also offer learning opportunities and services for young people every weekend and school break; hold community events for all ages; and speaks to the congregation not just in English, but also in Creole.
The church sees the value in training all their leaders to handle and support their congregation, including those who work with adults as well as teenagers and children.
Spreading mental health information to Bethel Evangelical Church means spreading the Mental Health First Aid message and potentially saving a life.
