Wondering what’s happening with the Community Engagement Workgroup? In one word, brainstorming.
With 2016 coming to a close, HDB spent the November workgroup meeting planning for what’s to come.
One of Community Engagement’s many strengths is its representation. Comprised of neighbors of different backgrounds, races, genders, and ages makes Community Engagement a microcosm of Delray Beach. So who better to brainstorm with!
- Barwick Park Project
Two students from Atlantic High School have proposed revitalizing Barwick Park by first cleaning it up and then adding exercise equipment that includes information about behavioral health. By joining this project HDB is working to create a community space for physical and mental wellness.
- Wrap Up Party
The HDB Wrap Up Party is meant to serve as a celebration of community (and HDB) accomplishments as the year comes to a close. By encouraging people to come out and celebrate with their neighbors we are fostering a system of natural behavioral health supports in Delray Beach.
- Neighborhood Projects
As HDB moves further into the community, it makes sense that our next focus is how to celebrate and support the different neighborhoods in Delray Beach and their residents. Encouraging block pride and bringing neighbors together again supports a system of care by Delray Beach residents, for Delray Beach residents.
- Historic Delray Beach Bike Ride
Coinciding with our focus on neighborhoods, Delray Beach resident Morris Carstarphen has proposed a youth-focused historic bike ride through Delray Beach. By promoting a deeper connection to their neighborhoods and, again, bringing the focus back to the connection between physical and mental health HDB is helping residents to mold Delray Beach into a safe space to talk about behavioral health
- Ambassador Presentations
As our first group of HDB Ambassadors get settled in their roles – the question now is where to start? From barber shops to civic organizations, Ambassadors will be giving presentations to areas of Delray Beach we haven’t yet reached and spreading the word about HDB and behavioral health, neighbor to neighbor.
The Community Engagement Workgroup’s dedication to meeting their neighbors where they are is part of what makes this group of Delray Beach residents so powerful. By putting the focus on what residents want, they are respecting their community. By supporting their neighbors, they are leading by example.
